Do you have unused vacation days adding up – but you just don’t think you’ll be able to get away this year? You don’t have to fly to Timbuktu to have a vacation. Plan a staycation instead, and enjoy a week or two of pure escape in your sweet new home at Villa Medici.
When you plan it right, a staycation can provide the rest and relaxation that you need – and it won’t cost you a fortune, give you jetlag, or force you to deal with confusing itineraries. And when you live in a stylish home at Villa Medici, a staycation can truly be a luxurious experience!
But beware – if you don’t think ahead, your special time for R&R can quickly become a lost week of binge watching TV and Facebooking. Ideally, a staycation should be a chance to enjoy some quality time – with yourself, your family, your friends, and/or your pets. Discover the pleasures of the staycation, and treat yourself with the break that you deserve.
Step 3: Set some ground rules
Think about the number one purpose of your staycation. Do you want to relax, spend quality time with family, reconnect with your partner, or have fun for once in your life? Set guidelines that will help you to achieve your goals, such as limits for using the computer, TV and/or mobile devices. But don’t expect everyone to go cold turkey and unplug completely.
Step 2: Prep your home
You won’t want to do laundry or any housekeeping during your staycation, so make sure that you’re caught up on all your domestic chores before it starts. It can be hard to relax with a mound of dirty dishes in the sink, and you’ll be tempted to use your free time to catch up on housework. Instead, clean your home the week before your staycation arrives so that you can truly relax.
Step 3: Decide what you will eat
What will you eat during your staycation? Will you go out to restaurants, order delivery, or pick up take-out from the local deli? If this is the case, gather together menus and make a list of nearby restaurants that you want to try. If your budget won’t allow for so much indulgence, cook some easy-to-prepare meals ahead of time and freeze them. You may also want to stock up on ready-to-eat deli items, healthy snacks, and frozen treats – and don’t forget about the paper plates, plastic utensils and cups.
Step 4: Plan to relax
Make sure you have everything you need to relax so that you won’t have to run out and get anything. If you want to have a movie night, get popcorn and soda. Buy new nail polish and facemasks for a spa night, or a new board game for family game night.
Step 5: Go out and have fun
You don’t have to hide indoors all week. Plan some fun outings to local parks, museums and other attractions. And don’t forget to take pictures of your adventures, just like you would on a real vacation!
